General

This Easter we are returning to the Invergarry Lodge Hostel in Glengarry.  Visit website?

This four-star hostel is set in wooded gardens a few hundred yards from the A82 and has ample parking.  The hostel is well-equipped with central heating, a large kitchen with separate dining room, a large TV lounge and a drying room.  Free internet access and WiFi are provided.  Guests have access to front door keys and are free to come and go as they please.

Invergarry village is about five minutes’ walk away and has a shop, post office, petrol station and the Glengarry Heritage Centre.  The Invergarry Hotel provides bar meals, real ale and a selection of malt whiskies.  Visit website?

Routes

The Hostel is within reach of several mountain areas and there is a wide variety of walks for all abilities.  Inspiration can be found on the Hostel’s own website or at www.walkhighlands.co.uk/fortwilliam/lochlochy.shtml.

At this time of year high level walkers may need full winter kit as conditions can deteriorate very quickly.

Other activities

Day trips:
The hostel is a short drive from Loch Ness (Urquhart Castle, exhibitions, cruises) and Fort Augustus (Caledonian Canal Visitor Centre and Rare Breeds Park).  It's also ideally placed for day trips to Inverness and Fort William for shopping and swimming.  Ben Nevis Distillery, situated at the foot of its namesake, is open to visitors.  Further suggestions can be found on the Hostel’s website.

Cycling:
Invergarry is close to the long distance Great Glen route and there are marked trails in many of the local forest areas.  The Hostel has a secure cycle shed as well as a power shower for cleaning bikes.

Ski-ing:
Ben Nevis and the Nevis Range are about half an hour away, so conditions permitting, skiing, sledging and access to the Nevis Gondola are possible.

Travel

Travel will be by car as usual, to suit individual plans for the Friday.  Car sharing and any hill plans for the Friday can be discussed if necessary a few days beforehand.

Accommodation

The hostel sleeps up to 26 people bunks in four, five and six bunk bedded rooms.  I have initially  booked two four-bed rooms, one of which has en suite facilities.  More beds can be booked subject to availability.

The subsidised cost of accommodation is £36 per person for the weekend, inclusive of bed linen.  The hostel can provide towels for a small additional charge.

What next?

If you are interested and want to book a place, call or send an email to let me know as soon as possible.  As the hostel has asked for a deposit payable in advance, please then click below to download the acceptance form to complete, save, print and mail to me together with your cheque for the deposit amount of £16 per person The balance can then be paid at the weekend.
