on Saturday 7 January 2012

Maps required are LandRanger 72 Upper Clyde Valley and 73 Peebles, Galashiels & surrounding area,

This is now a past outing.  Like to read about it?

General

This trip will be by CAR POOL leaving the Inverlair Avenue entrance at Cathcart at 08.00hrs.  Please be at the car park 10 minutes beforehand so that we can work out the necessary car sharing arrangements.

We'll head down the M74 and turn off for Moffat.  We should be there around 09.15 so if people want to travel direct we can meet there.  From Moffat we'll take the Selkirk road past St Mary’s Loch to the turning for the Megget Reservoir, where we can park in the car park. (Unfortunately the route splits over 2 maps).

After the walk, we can head for the Tibbie Sheils Inn for some refreshments.

Remember .. at this time of year, high level walkers may need full winter kit.  Even if it looks OK to start off, conditions can deteriorate very quickly.

The Route

Greenside Law, Notman Law, Fifescar Knowe and Dollar Law.

From the car park at the dam walk to Craigierig and take the path heading north for about 2km before leaving it to climb to the summit of Greenside Law.  Head SW to gain another path that skirts past Shielhope Head and then up towards Notman Head.

The path then continues to a bealach where we'll turn north to reach the summit of Dollar Law.   Return to the bealach and climb to Fifescar Knowe and then descend SE to meet up with a path that descends into the glen and follows the Cramalt Burn to join the road.  From there it's about 2km back to the car park.

Distance 15 km
Total ascent 720m
Likely time 4½ - 5½ hours
