This is now a past outing.  Like to read about it?

General

The first weekend trip of 2012 will be to the Fort William area.  The area calls itself “the outdoor capital of the UK” and there are certainly plenty of walking opportunities for all levels.  There are also some good cycle routes and many other activities on offer.

Travel

Travel will be by car pool to suit individual plans for the Friday.  Final car sharing and hill plans can be discussed a few days beforehand, but if you already have some ideas, please let me know with your acceptance so that I can share these with other interested members.  Also, please let me know if you are prepared to drive.

Routes

Fort William is ideally located to reach a large number of Munros, Corbetts and Grahams.  The Great Glen Way passes near the hostel and the northern end of the West Highland Way is not far away.  A drop-off or pickup along these routes can be arranged.  There are also many shorter walks available in the area.

Accommodation

Our base will be the Chase the Wild Goose Hostel in Banavie, at the southern end of the Caledonian Canal (near Neptune’s staircase).  An eight-bed room has been booked and it should be possible to arrange additional places if required.  The hostel is well equipped and also offers free Wi-Fi.  The cost is £14 per night, which includes bedding (but don’t forget to bring your own towel).  With the club subsidy, the total cost for the weekend is £21 per member.
