May Day Trip to a section of the River Ayr Way

The day that the rains came down .....
Well, most of you must have known the day's forecast some time in advance .. or maybe you just didn't fancy an easy ramble .. but numbers for this trip were so low that the bus had to be cancelled on the Tuesday closing day!! Fortunately I managed to borrow a minibus from one of my colleague charities .. Flourish House .. and James agreed to take his car to assist with transport at the end of the route. So 11 of us headed down to Sorn and Wellwood for a day on the River Ayr Way.
It wasn't too bad when we reached the start point at 9.30am .. grey skies but no rain .. but by the time we reached Fisherman's Bridge it started, and got heavier and heavier. It became a case of heads down and plod on .. very little stopping to admire the views, or even enjoy a sandwich or two. Most arrived at the Sorn Inn around 1pm and enjoyed the warmth and comfort over a few drinks and bowls of soup and chips, before heading back up the now-flooded roads to the M77 and Cathcart.
A nice route best saved for a nice day.

For this weekend 6 were staying at the Kinlochewe bunkhouse .. a little basic, but adequate. You needed to be an active hillwalker to reach the top bunk beds (three high). As usual, a few had escaped early and climbed on the Friday. Allan Boyd climbed Sail Mhor, Bob climbed Meall a'Chaorainn and Allan Hutcheon climbed Slioch.
Everyone eventually met up in the bar to arrange Saturday's walking. James, Allan H and Charlie cycled in to bag some Fisherfield hills. Allan and Charlie climbed Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair, Sgurr Ban and Beinn a'Chlaidheimh while James did Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair and its top, Sgurr Dubh. Charlie was going to stay up and camp overnight, so Allan and James headed back to Kinlochewe. Allan Boyd and I climbed Beinn an Eoin and Baosbheinn. Beautiful sunny day. Bob climbed Carn Breac and Beinn na Feusaige. No meals in the pub due to heavy bookings, so it was self catering for us. Managed a drink though.
On Sunday Allan Hutcheon took a well earned rest. Allan Boyd headed off to Poolewe and climbed Beinn Airigh Charr. James, Inma and myself climbed Ruadh-stac Beag attached to Beinn Eighe. Another nice day. Bob climbed Beinn a'Mhuinidh.
